NID Ahmedabad offers MDes in 7 specialisations to students which are Animation Film Design, Film & Video Communication, Graphic Design, Ceramic & Glass Design, Furniture & Interior Design, Product Design, and Textile Design. The duration of the course is for 2 years. Candidates need to clear the NID Entrance Exam. NID Ahmedabad eligibility and selection criteria for MDes course:

Selection criteria: DAT Prelims (30% weightage) + DAT Mains (70% weightage, including studio test-40% and interview-30%)

There are not a lot of M.Des colleges in India with low fees. But some good top ranked colleges are there where you can get scholarships, some are NIFT Hyderabad, Nift shiloong, IIT Kanpur, etc. , for more information get in contact with rhe colleges admission department.

The GAT paper for the M.Des programme will be of 120 minutes and will include 120 multiple-choice questions. The questions will be set in English and Hindi the candidate will be able to select their language at the time of filling out the application form. NID DAT Mains exam for M.Des was conducted on March 08, 2026. Personal Interview was from March 21, 2026 to April 01, 2026. NID Admit card for M.Des Mains was out on February 24, 2026.

The NID DAT 2026 Studio Test and Interview for the M.Des program will be conducted from in the first week of March 2026. Candidates will be shortlisted for DAT Mains on the basis of their performance in DAT Prelims.

The Studio Test and Interview will be conducted programme-wise from. Candidates who have qualified DAT prelims are eligible to appear in DAT Mains, which comprise a Studio Test and Interview for the M.Des programme. The Studio Test is usually conducted from 9 am - 12 noon. The Interview will be conducted after the completion of the studio test.

Admission to the B.Des and M.Des programs at the NIDs is conducted through the NID DAT entrance exam.

The exam has two sub-exams - The candidate 1st appears in DAT Prelims, and if shortlisted has to appear in DAT Mains. 

The final merit list for NID DAT will be prepared by giving weightage to DAT Prelims and DAT Mains.

Also, if a candidate doen't appear in DAT Mains, he or she will not be considered for admission. 

The DAT Mains exam for the B. Des programme will include a Studio Test. Meanwhile, the DAT Mains for the M.Des programme includes a Studio Test and Interview.
