In NIFT counselling process, documents of candidates are verified and they are offered a seat for admission in a specific course and college, depending on their NIFT rank. As part of the NIFT counselling process, candidates need to get registered and enter their preferences of academic programme. Academic programme in this sense means selection of the academic course and NIFT; entries should be in the order of priority.

The counselling process for NIFT is being held online as a centralized seat-allotment process. The allotment of seats will be based on NIFT merit rank and college/ course picked at the time of registration. Post seat all

Students often lose marks in the NIFT Situation Test because of poor time management, weak creativity, untidy model presentation and lack of concept explanation. Many aspirants focus only on decoration instead of originality, functionality and clean finishing.

NIFT is a government-run institution, so its BDes fees are lower, around INR 6 - 9 lakh, compared to Arch College of Design and Business. Arch offers a more business-focused curriculum with its own incubation hub for start-ups. Arch also uses the AIEED exam, which focuses heavily on a student's overall creative mindset rather than just a written test.
