Yes, you can get admission via lateral mode in the college in your state offering this branch based on your Diploma results. Aah, the Shakespearen dilemma! Actually it's like which flower is better! Okay. Different branches in engineering don the top flavour of choice in different points in time. Hardly any branch has retained it's top position except perhaps IT/CSE. Both the branches mentioned by you can be called as evergreen branches. Both have similar chances of placements. In view of the above, I have no doubt to advise you that please select the branch that fascinates you the most. Best wishes to you.

First of all, it's better to get rank less than 5k as it's Amrita the most prestigious institution. It has more competition than other institutions.

Of course yes. With such good marks in Diploma, even though it is in mechanical engineering, you can definitely apply for graduation in Aeronautical Engineering. However I will like to advise you that as per my opinion mechanical engineering will be better for you than aeronautical engineering because the jobs in Aeronautical are much less as compared with mechanical engineering and you would be better of doing graduation in this. ECE is a better option as per me, you can generally observe too many people are doing this as then, obviously, it has a good scope.

Can you specify which institute exactly you are talking about, and also your rank and category because these things matter.
