Generally speaking COEP blows SPCE out of the water. COEP is much well-known and trusted among recruiters as compared to MIT. Last time COEP had around 83.8 % placements for mechanical (this number seems less as the students who didn't accept the offers are also included) and the average salary was around 6-7 LPA for mechanical department which is more compared to SPCE.

The placement at Harcourt Butler Technical University of Mechanical Engineering is good. The placement ratio is almost around 75 to 80% placement.
The average package offered is around 3 to 5 LPA.
Since mechanical engineering is amongst evergreen fields, the placements in this branch will increase with good amount of packages. Company like Tata Motors, Tech Mahindra, Reliance Industries and L&T are the bulk recruiters. The college provides for an average placement package of around 3.5 lacs and that too in IT corporate companies like Infosys, TCS, Wipro, Accenture or actually mass recruiters which tells about the state of placement in the college.

You can prepare by scoring good marks while passing out of diploma school. Then seek lateral admission in college of your choice in your state offering Aeronautical engineering. Else based on diploma appear for JEE Mains and JEE Advanced to get admission in one of the IIT's for your fav course.

Although if core company placements are what you are looking for then it is not the right place for you, as most numbers of offers are made by corporate IT companies while the number of core company placements in the college is only around 10%. So, most of the students end up taking IT corporate jobs, giving up packages of nothing more than 4 lacs.
