Candidates who have passed a master's degree with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale (50% aggregate for SC/ ST) are eligible to apply for BIIB Pune PhD course. 

Aspirants who are fellow members of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), and Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India (ICWAI), with five years of professional experience are also eligible.

Yes in general a master's degree is one of the stepping stones toward a doctorate. However before taking a decision on that, reflect on why you want to pursue a doctorate.

A PhD is typically a research degree. It may help in teaching and consulting. A master's degree indicates mastery of one's profession.
