Yes, you took a good decision. Though you might not have got any colleges through your JEE and COMEDK rankings, you took the perfect decision. Still, try for core branches such as CSE or ECE.
Best of luck.

You have to do B.Tech in Civil which is of 4 years then you will get a B.Tech degree (Certificate). There are total 8 semesters in B.Tech, you have to clear all of them in 4 years.
Best of luck for your future.

If I may say so, your rank is a bit low. Nevertheless, getting admission depends on how those ahead of you have given their choice. For you to get some idea, I am attaching a link that will predict a college for you.

Predict engineering colleges you can get on the basis of your JEE rank: https://www.shiksha.com/b-tech/resources/jee-mains-college-predictor?utm_source=cconnect&utm_medium=CR_JEECP&utm_campaign=8321427. In VIT placement are decent for civil but one should not depend on placements from VIT.
Most of the students go for a higher education. The highest pay till now in civil is 9 LPA which is rare.
Average pay around 4-5 LPA. Top companies visited are such l&T, Godrej and Tata housing. Mostly your role is such as site engineer and junior site engineer are offered. You have to have a minimum of 8.4 CGPA in order to even think about a job.

First of all, give your 100% in B.Tech.
Then you should go for internships and all. Do online courses also in a specific field in which you are interested!
All the best!
