If you have an honest interest in mechanical then go for it, otherwise, don't waste your four years in mechanical, you might end up cursing yourself as it might be evergreen, but if done from an average college and you are an average student, you might end up with 15K salary.
Nowadays, CSE is the preferred branch as we are moving towards computerized and digitized world even EE and civil would be the nice choices.

Your choice is good but without mathematics, it is not successful in electrical or computer engineer. A few knowledge in mathematics and you can get big success as mathematics has a role in writing the program.

You may able to get research jobs in R & D organisation after B.Tech in electrical engineering but you may have to do M.Tech or Ph.D for long term growth as a researcher.
