Your performance in JEE Mains is not very much satisfying to get you any good colleges, so I will recommend you to take a gap and prepare well for the next year.

There are about 12K seats in all IITs put together. Out of these, only 50% are available for general candidates. Your son's rank is 10K. So you can imagine where he stands.

No, you need to score 75% in 12th class. Then only you will be eligible to get the JEE Advanced colleges. If you will give the exam of JEE next year, this issue will still persist. Go for JEE Mains counselling. With this rank, you will get a great college.
Don't go for drop as this will waste your time for 1 year.
