I can tell you the basic difference between both streams and the you can decide which is more suitable for you. Mechanical engineer as the name itself says, this branch is based on machines, their mechanisms. It contains a lot of major topics like IC engines, thermodynamics, robotics, material science, air crafts, etc. Whereas, civil engineering is basically focused on construction work as well as development of the structures. Prepare yourself for the entrance exams such as CAT,MAT,XAT etc.Be sure that you are fully dedicated towards it.Once you crack any of these exams with good percentile you will definetly get a good institute.Try for IIMs.
