Preparing for the GMAT and IELTS exams requires time and effort, and the ideal preparation timeline can vary depending on your current proficiency level and target scores. However, here are some general guidelines:

• Know the different study abroad intakes.
• Know the admission deadlines.
• Keep time for retaking the exams and for the preparation of apply documents such as an SOP, LORs, etc.

GMAT:

• It is recommended to prepare for the GMAT 2023 exam for at least 3-6 months.
• This allows you to familiarize yourself with the exam format, content, and question types.
• It also gives you ample time to work on areas of weakness, practice test-taking strategies, and improve your overall performance.
• If you feel you need more time or have a busy schedule, you can adjust the timeline accordingly.

IELTS:

• The preparation timeline for IELTS can vary depending on your English language proficiency level.
• If you are already proficient in English and have good language skills, a preparation period of 1-2 months may be sufficient.
• If you need to improve your English language skills, it is advisable to start preparing at least 3-6 months in advance.
• This will give you time to work on your vocabulary, grammar, listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
• Regular practice with sample test materials and mock exams is also essential.

Keep in mind that these time frames are only suggestions, and the length of preparation may vary depending on your particular situation and objectives. Establish a study plan, identify your talents and shortcomings, and provide enough time for practice and progress. It is also a good idea to confirm the precise specifications and application deadlines of the colleges or organisations you intend to apply to. Your preparation schedule may be impacted by some of them having specified score requirements or application deadlines.

An IELTS band score between 5.0 and 5.5 is considered a modest score. And will not make you eligible to apply to Tier I universities abroad. Students should note that English language scores are university specific. So while your English language scores would be required as part of your student visa application, however, they are an integral part of your university admission requirements. An IELTS band score of 5.0 – 5.5 will not make you eligible for top-ranking universities. However, with an IELTS 5.5 band score, you will be eligible to select a few universities in countries like Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States, Germany, Ireland, Denmark, France, Norway, Sweden, United Arab Emirates, Malaysia and Singapore among others. The IELTS exam is available in two formats. They are the IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training. Conducted by IDP, in the IELTS exam there are four papers Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.
