While the NEST exam is mostly for integrated MSc courses of institutions like NISER and UM-DAE CEBS, it will not be the best option for those who would like to have a Ph.D. programme pursuing theoretical quantum physics.

 

Alternatively, appear for tests like the Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) or the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), which are more appropriate for Ph.D. admissions in physics. The tests are a measure of candidates' readiness for advanced-level research and are accepted by a large majority of universities awarding Ph.D. degrees in physics, such as theoretical quantum physics.

Students who are enrolled under the HTRA category are eligible for Half-Time Research Assistantship (HTRA). Such students are provided an HTRA ranging from INR 37,000 to INR 42,000. Once the IIITDM Kurnool PhD application process is over, the admission committee begins the screening process. All the registered candidates are evaluated based on their academic record, work experience, etc. Further, those who are shortlisted are required to take a written test.

Once the test is over, the institute may also conduct an interview process for further evaluation of students. After that, the institute releases a merit with the names of the students suited for the programme.
