IIT Dhanbad is a government institute. It was established in 1926 and was formerly known as the Indian School of Mines before its conversion into an IIT. The institute provides undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD programmes and the courses include BTech, MTech, MSc, MBA, Executive MBA, PhD, etc. under 18 departments. 

IIT Dhanbad has released the 2023 placement report. A total of 1,154 job offers were distributed among the 1,082 students placed.
