What is JoSAA?

JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) has been set up by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) to manage and regulate joint seat allocation for admissions to over 100 institutes including IITs, NITs, IIITs, and Other-Government Funded Technical Institutes (Other-GFTIs). Admissions to all these institutes will be done through a single platform. The idea behind introducing a single counselling platform was to reduce thousands of seats going vacant in engineering colleges across the country. The Joint seat allocation process was introduced to make the whole process of admissions smoother, effective, efficient, transparent and a lot faster.

Renowned institutes including Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh; Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi; and International Institute of Information Technology, Bhubaneswar, also conduct their admission process through JoSAA counselling.

Candidates who qualify for the JEE Main or JEE Advanced must register for JoSAA 2023 to participate in the counselling and admission process for various renowned engineering institutes across India. The admission process for admissions in 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 25 IIITs, and 28 Other-Government Funded Technical Institutes (Other-GFTIs) is managed by The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). Candidates will be allotted seats in seven rounds of JoSAA counselling 2023. The seat allotment through JoSAA will be based on the merit of candidates and their preference for courses and colleges.

All JEE Main and JEE Advanced qualified candidates are eligible for admission to various participating institutes. Over 50,000 undergraduate engineering seats (BTech/BE) will be open for eligible candidates. The article will help engineering aspirants to know more information about JoSAA 2023.

JoSAA 2023 Counselling Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: From when the JoSAA 2023 Counselling is likely to start?

A: JEE 2023 counselling is conducted by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority JoSAA every year. The counselling dates are not announced for 2023. However, based on past trends, JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) counselling for engineering admissions typically begins in the month of June or July each year. It is best to regularly check the official JoSAA website for the latest updates and announcements regarding the 2023 counselling schedule. Additionally, the candidates must keep on visiting this space for the latest updates related to JoSAA counselling.

Q: How is CSAB different from JoSAA?

A: CSAB (Central Seat Allocation Board) and JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) are both involved in the seat allocation process for engineering admissions in India, but there are some differences between the two. The basic difference is that first, JoSAA completes its JEE Main Counselling process for admissions to IITs, NITs and other participating colleges. Then, CSAB conducts 2 rounds to fill up the vacant seats (if any) of NITs, IIITs and other colleges (this does not include IITs).. .

Q: What are the various processes involved during the JoSAA Counselling?

A: JoSAA counselling is conducted for admission to BE/B.Tech courses offered by the IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. JoSAA counselling 2023 will be conducted online in six rounds. Qualified candidates of JEE Main will be eligible for admission to NITs, IIITs and GFTIs while students who qualify for JEE Advanced will be eligible for admission to IITs.

Q: Who can participate in JoSAA Counselling?

A: All the candidates who have qualified JEE Main 2023 or JEE Advanced 2023 will be eligible to register and appear for JoSAA 2023 counselling and seat allotment procedure. The eligibility criteria for JEE Main and JEE Advanced exams are set by the National Testing Agency NTA and the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), respectively. JoSAA Counselling is the centralized counselling process for admission to the participating institutes in India, which include the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and other government-funded technical institutes (GFTIs).. .

Q: Is JoSAA counselling fees refundable?

A: Yes, the seat acceptance fee will be refunded to a candidate in case they withdraw the allotted seat after deducting the processing charges of Rs 1500. However, in general, the refund policies for counselling fees may vary depending on the institution and the specific circumstances surrounding the payment. It is best to check the official website of JoSAA or contact their helpline for the most up-to-date information on their refund policies.

Q: How many rounds are there in JoSAA Counselling?

A: The admission process for admissions in 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 25 IIITs, and 28 Other-Government Funded Technical Institutes (Other-GFTIs) is done by JoSAA in seven rounds. It is important to note that the number of rounds of counselling may vary each year, and candidates are advised to refer to the official JoSAA website for the latest information. In these rounds, candidates are allotted seats based on their JEE Main or JEE Advanced rank and preferences filled by them during registration. Candidates who are allotted seats have to either accept or float the seat.

Q: Is there a possibility that a candidate's name appears in one or more rank lists of JoSAA?

A: Yes, it is very much possible that a candidate's name appears in more than one rank list. It depends on the candidate's category and physical disability status along with his/her performance in the entrance exam. It is important to note that the counselling process is based on the candidate's All India Rank (AIR) or Common Rank List (CRL) as per the respective rank list. The counselling process follows the order of priority of the rank lists, which is specified by JoSAA.

Q: What is a special round in JoSAA?

A: Special Vacant Seats Filling Round, also known as the special round is conducted by the Central Seat Allocation Board CSAB to fill the vacant seats at NITs, IIEST, IIITs and other GFTIs (Except IITs) after completion of all the JoSAA Rounds. The purpose of the special round is to fill the remaining vacant seats in the participating institutes. Candidates who are eligible for the special round have to register and fill their choices again. The seat allocation in the special round is based on the candidate's rank and the availability of seats.

Q: I have qualified in JEE Advanced 2023/JEE Main 2023. Is it mandatory to register in JoSAA to get a seat in IITs, NITs, IIITs and Other-GFTIs

A: Yes, if you have qualified in JEE Advanced 2023 or JEE Main 2023 and want to secure admission to the participating institutions (IITs, NITs, IIITs, and Other-GFTIs), it is mandatory to register for JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) counselling. JoSAA is responsible for the centralized counselling and seat allocation process for all the participating institutes based on the rank obtained by the candidates in JEE Advanced 2023 or JEE Main 2023. The entire admission process, including the allocation of seats, acceptance of seats, and reporting to the allotted institute, is done through JoSAA.

Q: What to do if I do not get allotted seats during the JoSAA 2023 counselling seat allotment?

A: JoSAA conducts multiple rounds of counselling, and you can participate in subsequent rounds to try and get allotted a seat in the participating institute of your choice. If you still do not get a seat during the regular rounds of JoSAA counselling, you can apply for the special round. The special round is the final round of counselling where vacant seats are filled based on the availability of seats.

Q: Is JoSAA Counselling free? If not, how much fees a candidate has to pay for it?

A: No, JoSAA counselling is not free. General/Open category candidates are required to pay a fee of Rs 45,000, whereas SC, Gen-PwD, ST, OBC-NCL-PwD, ST-PwD and SC-PwD have to pay Rs 20,000 through e-challan or through SBI net banking to appear in the counselling. The fees will be included in the semester fees once students confirm their admission.
