No, you can't "fail" the PTE exam, but you can fail to achieve your target score from the institution you're applying to. Note that there is no universal "pass" or "fail" mark for the PTE Academic test. 

Universities and immigration bodies will consider your best overall score from a single sitting that meets all their specific criteria (including sectional cut-offs). 

You can choose to share only your best scores if you have taken multiple attempts of the PTE esam. Your university or visa offices cannot view the scores from your other attempts (except from the ones that you share).

You need to balance on both speed and accuracy, but accuracy usually comes first, especially for content-based questions in the PTE exam.

• Accuracy: Without accuracy, speed is useless. Incorrect answers written fast or even in full length don't get any marks.
• Speed: PTE is highly timed exam. You must learn to work quickly and efficiently. Hence, the ideal approach is to practice until you can achieve accuracy within the time limits for each question type. 

The minimum PTE scores required for the UK Student visa for the degree level and above courses is 59.

The PTE-A exam fees in Canada in 2026 is $360 CAD. The fees of PTE Core exam in Canada is also the same at $360 CAD. However, the PTE exams A1, A2 and B1 cost $305 CAD.
