Yes. UK accepts the Pearson Test of English (PTE) for work permits - specifically PTE Academic UKVI test. It is a Secure English Language Test (SELT) approved by UK Home Office for Skilled Worker, Health and Care Worker and other visa categories.

There are several universities in UK that accept low PTE scores - say between 50 to 59. These universities accept these scores for all their Masters and undergraduate programs. Some UK universities accepting PTE scores include University of Essex, Cardiff University, Swansea University, University of Chester & Leeds Beckett University.

Over 99% of UK universities accept PTE Academic for Masters, including elite educational institutions like Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College London and LSE. Most universities in the UK require a 57-67+ scores on the PTE exam for their Masters courses while the elite ones require 76+ marks.

The PTE Academic is scored on a scale of 10 to 90 points, based on the Global Scale of English (GSE). The scores reflect your general English proficiency and are holistic judgment of all tasks rather than a simple average.

Both the tests can be hard or easy for test takers based on their individual level of English proficiency. The two exams differ entirely in terms of their scoring, exam pattern, testing pattern, question types, question count and set up.
The PTE exam includes integrated skills tasks that test more than one communicative skills at a time; plus the speaking section of teh PTE exam is tested in one single session along with the other sections of the test. The single best piece of PTE advice from real exam experience is to prioritise high-weightage, AI-scored question types such as Read Aloud, Repeat Sentence and Write from Dictation over the low-importance ones. Practising on tasks that contribute over 60% of the total score by using proven templates, maintaining fluent & uninterrupted speaking and using AI mock tests for practice is the fastest way to get a high score in the PTE exam .

The best ways to prepare for the PTE exam are -
- to master question-wise templates
- to focus on high-weightage tasks (Read Aloud, Repeat Sentence, Write from Dictation, Reading & Writing Blanks)
- to take regular timed mock tests
- Do daily practice for 1–2 hours combined with using official Pearson material and AI-scoring websites

While all preparation tips may sound repetitive, there are some that really produce results and are effective in gaining good scores for the PTE. The most effective tricks that work in scoring 70+ marks in PTE (or any other exam) are -
- Start preparing with the PTE Official Guide first. Try to understand the exam format, scoring and question types first.
- Then, start practising in timed conditions. Use the Pearson PTE Practice Tests Plus books to simulate the actual test environment.

To choose the right PTE test centre in India, balance factors like your convenience, slot availability and the ease of travel to reduce stress for the exam day.
For that, - select a centre close to your home or office to minimise travel stress. Take into account factors like - public transport connectivity & vehicle parking facilities. Note - you must reach at test centre at least 30 minutes before your exam as, if you reach any later - you'll be denied entry to the exam centre.
