Students who are looking for admission to Ph.D., programme at Periyar University, a candidate should have obtained a Master Degree with not less than 55% of marks or an equivalent grade. For the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (Non-creamy layer)/Differently abled and those who have qualified for the Master’s degree before 19th September 1991 the minimum eligibility marks shall be 50% in their Master’s degree

Admission to the course is on the basis of an entrance test conducted by the university followed by an interview round. Periyar University admission rounds are conducted by the Department Research Committee. The final selection is based on applicants’ performance in the PhD entrance test, interview, and PG course.

An Entrance Test consists of both a written test and an oral interview. The written test will be conducted for 40 marks and an oral interview for 10 marks at Periyar University. Candidates securing 50% aggregate altogether shall be declared eligible for admission. Those candidates who scored at least 15 marks on the written test will be called for an oral interview.

Yes, SNU Chennai offers stipends and assistantships to full-time PhD students. Whereas, part-time scholars are exempted from this facility. Students admitted to PhD course at SNU Chennai will receive a stipend of INR 20,000 per month, with free shared accommodation in the campus. The university also provides contingency amount of INR 25,000 per annum for research activities.
Note: The stipend is subject to the satisfactory performance in the program, which shall be evaluated continuously, in compliance with the University research regulations.

SNU Chennai PhD admissions 2024 are open for the January Session. The last date to apply for the same was Nov 24, 2023. However, the written exam dates have not been released on the official website. SNU Chennai PhD admissions are entrance-based. The university conducts an in-house entrance exam for the selection of right candidates to its PhD course. There is no other entrance exam acceptable for the admission. Candidates have to apply and qualify for the exam with a valid score. Candidates who will secure a good rank in the respective exam will be called for PI round.
