After union parliamentary affairs minister Prahlad Joshi had recently said that the 90% of the Indians who study medical outside India fail to clear the Foreign Medical Graduate Exam (FMGE) examination, the reports are emerging that as per the data of the National Board of Examination (NBE), only 20% of the foreign medical graduates are able to clear the FMGE examination which is a screening test conducted by the NBE and mandated by the National Medical Commission (NMC) to get the medical practitioner license in India.
FMGE is a mandatory examination for medical graduates from countries like Russia, Ukraine, China, the Philippines, Bangladesh and Nepal to practice medicine in India. However, MBBS graduates from the countries like UK, the US, Australia, Canada and New Zealand, do not need to take the FMGE exam.
