CEED 2024 - IIT Bombay will conduct CEED 2024 tentatively in the 4th week of January 2024. 

Note that the syllabus of CEED 2024 has been revised. So, when preparing for the exam, you need to prepare only for topics that are included in the revised syllabus.

CEED 2024 question paper will have two parts - 1) the computer-based Part A and 2) the offline-based Part B.

It is mandatory for candidates to qualify Part A, or else, Part B answer booklets will not be evaluated. The cut-off marks for Part A will be released before the declaration of CEED 2024 results

Also, only such candidates who meet Part A cut-off marks will be allocated a merit rank and will be eligible to participate in the seat allocation process. 

The application form for CEED 2024 will commence tentatively in the last week of September 2023. Applications have to be filled online at ceed.iitb.ac.in. The application fee for CEED 2024 is INR 3,600.

Q:   When will the admission notification released for the CEED 2024 exam?

A:

IIT Bombay will released the admission notification for the CEED 2024 exam tentatively in September 2023. The admission notification will contain details pertaining to the admission schedule, eligibility criteria, pattern, etc. The candidate needs to carefully go through the notification to ensure their eligibility and prepare for the exam.

IIT Bombay will also launch a new website once the new session starts. The candidate can check all updates on this website, which will also contain useful recourses like previous years’ question papers.

Q:   When will the CEED 2024 exam be conducted?

A:

IIT Bombay will conduct the tentatively in the 4th week of January 2023. The exam will include two sections - Part A and Part B. Part A of the exam will be administered in a computer-based mode, whereas Part B will be held offline. It is mandatory for candidates to qualify for Part A. If the candidate fails to qualify for Part A, his or her Part B answers booklet will not be evaluated. The final score of CEED 2024 will be calculated by giving weightage to both Part A and Part B.

Q:   When will the application form for CEED 2024 open?

A:

The application form for CEED 2024 will commence sometime in the last week of September 2024. The application will be open online at ceed.iitb.ac.in. All the details pertaining to the CEED 2024 application form will be updated on the admission portals, including the information brochure. The candidate needs to carefully go through the brochure to check their eligibility. Note that information entered by the candidate at the time of submitting their application form will be verified at the time of counseling. Any candidate who doesn’t meet the criteria will be disqualified.

What is the CEED exam?

The Common Entrance Exam for Design or CEED is a national-level exam conducted by IIT Bombay for admission to M.Des and Ph.D. courses offered by participating institutes. The exam is conducted once every academic year.  

The M.Des program is available at IISc Bangalore, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Kanpur, IIT Roorkee, and IIITDM Jabalpur. Meanwhile, the Ph.D. course is available at several IITs and design schools. 

Candidates who are allocated a merit rank in CEED 2024 will have to apply individually to the participating institute based on their scores. The participating institutes will shortlist candidates based on their CEED 2024 merit rank and may conduct further admission rounds before preparing the merit list for admission.

Q:   How many students appear for CEED exam?

A:
A total of 6037 candidates registered for CEED 2023, out of which 4,910 candidates appeared, and 1,886 candidates qualified in the exam. By comparison, in 2020, 5,564 students took CEED exam and 1,724 qualified the exam. Common Entrance Examination for Design was given by 5,491 in 2019 and out of this number, 1,179 candidates qualified the design entrance test. Along with national-level exams like NID that and NIFT, CEED is among the most popular PG entrance exams in the country. The application form for CEED 2024 will open tentatively in the last week of September 2023.

Q:   What is the difference between CEED and UCEED exam?

A:
Both CEED and UCEED exams are conducted by IIT Bombay. However, CEED scores are used to shortlist candidates for admission to the M.Des courses, whereas UCEED is an entrance exam for admission to the B. Des course. IIT Bombay also conducts a Joint Admission Process (or counseling) for UCEED qualified candidates. However, IIT Bombay doesn't conduct any joint counseling for CEED qualified candidates. Instead, candidates who have been assigned CEED merit ranks will have to apply directly to the participating college.

Q:   Is the CEED exam tough?

A:
The difficulty level of CEED exam has been maintained by authorities over the years. However, most design aspirants share that if difficulty level of all design entrance exams conducted for PG level courses is compared then CEED is slightly easier than NID Entrance Exam. This is primarily because the drawing questions asked in NID that are considered to be tougher than those put forth in CEED exam. Note that CEED exam is for admission to the M.Des courses offered by the eight participating colleges. Meanwhile, the NID that for the M.Des programme has three participating colleges.

Q:   How many seats are there in CEED?

A:
Seats available for CEED admission vary from one institute to the other (that accept the exam scores for admission). For e. g, IIT Hyderabad has 30 seats, while IISc Bangalore has 18 seats. Candidates are informed that CEED is just a qualifying exam. Thus, any aspirant who clears CEED exam may have to appear in further admission rounds that may be conducted by the participating college. The application process at the participating colleges typically open once the CEED entrance exam results are announced.

What is NEW in CEED 2024?

IIT Bombay has revised the syllabus for the CEED 2024 exam. This means the old syllabus will not be used to frame questions for CEED 2024.

The revised syllabus will evaluate the open, creative, and inquisitive disposition, ability to think critically, capacity to comprehend and communicate, and breadth of the worldview of the candidate.   

IIT Bombay hasn't yet disclosed whether the exam pattern will also be revised. The full details regarding the exam pattern will be released at the time of the release of the CEED application form 2023.

Note: The UCEED 2024 syllabus and exam pattern have also been revised. The UCEED exam is conducted for admission to the B.Des program.

Q:   How should I start preparing for CEED 2024?

A:

You can start preparing for CEED 2024 by following the below steps:

  • Understand CEED exam pattern and syllabus well.
  • Note that the CEED 2024 syllabus has been revised for both Part A and Part B.
  • IIT Bombay will release the detailed exam pattern when it releases the information brochure, sometime in September 2023.
  • Make a well thought-out timetable for CEED preparation
  • Practice as many CEED previous year question papers and sample papers as possible
  • Take notes when you are studying.
  • Analyse your weak areas for the exam and work to improve those areas/subjects
  • Take mock tests.

Q:   With the CEED 2024 syllabus revised, should I solve previous years question papers?

A:

It is very important for the candidate to solve previous years’ question papers. The reason being the question papers will help the candidate identify the types of questions asked, marking scheme, difficult level, etc.

Considering the syllabus for CEED 2024 has been revised, the candidate may solve only those questions that are still included in the topic. Carefully go through the revised syllabus and check out the topics; identify the topcis that are same as last year. You can use the question papers and solve questions for the common topics.

Q:   Is it mandatory to clear both Part A and B of CEED exam?

A:
Yes, it is mandatory to clear both parts of CEED exam. Part B answer booklets are evaluated only for candidates who qualify Part A. Some of the important points that candidates must keep in mind regarding CEED exam pattern include: All questions of CEED Part-A and -B will be displayed on a computer. While candidates have to enter the answers for Part-A in the computer, the answers for Part-B have to be written in the provided answer booklet. To answer each question asked in NAT section of CEED Part-A, candidates need to use a virtual keyboard. No choices for correct answer are shown in this section. Each MSQ contains four choices, out of which one or more answers are correct Each MCQ contains four choices, out of which only one answer is correct Scribble pads will be provided by invigilator for rough work for Part-A of the exam. The pads have to be returned after the exam is over. Each question in Part-B of CEED exam is mandatory In Part-B, candidates are allowed to use items such as colour pencils, crayons and sketch pens unless otherwise specified in a question.

Q:   If I am not able to complete syllabus for CEED 2024, what should I do?

A:

The CEED 2024 syllabus can be daunting for some candidates. So, if you are not able to complete it, don'tpanic. The trick in these situations is to first focus on the easy topics and complete the first. If you manage that your anxiety levels will automatically come down. Next move on the moderate difficult topics. If you are able to tackle them, you can start working on the difficult ones. If you get stuck with a topic or problem, it is best to not spend prodigious time trying to master it. Instead move on to the next topic. You can revisit the difficult topic, if you have time.

Q:   Will the question paper include questions from all the topics mentioned in CEED 2024 syllabus?

A:

The topics listed in the CEED 2024 syllabus is indicative in nature. Also, the syllabus is exhaustive in the sense that questions may be asked from all or some of the topics. So, the candidate can’t skip any topics when preparing for CEED 2024. 

The candidate is urged to go through the previous years' question papers to get an idea about the paper structure and types of questions asked. That being said, keep in mind that the syllabus has been revised for CEED 2024.

CEED Application Form 2024

IIT Bombay will release the application form for CEED 2024 sometime in September 2023. The application is for admission to the M.Des and Ph.D. courses offered by participating colleges.

The application will be available online at ceed.iitb.ac.in.

The candidate has the option to fill out the CEED application form 2024 both with regular and late fees (INR 500). But before applying for the exam, the candidate must ensure that they meet the prescribed eligibility criteria.

Step-wise process to fill out CEED 2024 application form

  • Online registration - The candidate has to get registered through the official portal by entering their email id, name, date of birth, etc. On successful registration, an applicant account will be created. 
  • Check Eligibility - The candidate has to next undergo an eligibility check process, wherein he/she has to enter their qualifying exam, passing year, and mobile number.
  • Fill in the form - Next fill in personal, academic, and contact details. The candidate also has to select THREE exam centres, in the order of priority.
  • Upload documents – The candidate has to next upload photo, signature, and qualifying exam certificates in the prescribed format.
  • Payment of the exam fee: After confirming that the application form is complete in all respects, pay the exam fee online using net banking, credit, or debit cards.

Q:   Whom should I contact if I have any problem with CEED 2024 registration process?

A:

Candidates can report any issue faced by them while filling the CEED 2024 application form by clicking on the 'Report Problem' tab that is present on the right side of the application process windows. The tab is highlight in yellow colour. On clicking this tab, candidates have to elaborate on the problem that they are experiencing and also mention their registration number.

It is recommended that candidates fill out the form as soon as possible anddon'wait for the last few days. It is because there may be serve or other such issues which may delay or hinder the application process.

Q:   After submission of CEED 2024 application form, will I get permission to change my examination city?

A:

Candidates can request for a change in the test city and the same will be accommodated by authorities provided there is a valid reason. To change the CEED 2024 exam city, candidates need to make a request to the office of the Chairperson, IIT Bombay within the stipulated time. The CEED 2024 exam will be conducted in 24 cities across the country. Each of these city can have one or more exam centres. The name of the exam centre allocated to the candidate will be mentioned in the admit card.

CEED Eligibility Criteria 2024

The eligibility criteria that candidates need to meet for appearing in the CEED 2024 exam have been explained in the table below.

Q:   What happens if I apply for CEED 2024 but do not meet the eligibility criteria?

A:

The eligibility criteria for appearing in the CEED 2024 exam will be prescribed by IIT Bombay. It will be outlined in the information brochure. The candidate needs to carefully go through the criteria and only apply for admission if they meet the requirements.

Note that if the candidate fails to meet the CEED 2024 eligibility criteria, he or she could be disquafied at any stage of the admission process. Also, the participating colleges will have a document verification session, where all documents will be cross-checked.

Q:   How will my eligibility criteria determined for CEED 2024?

A:

The candidate may note that the eligibility criteria for appearing in the CEED 2024 exam and the eligibility criteria for admission to the M.Des program are not the same.

The eligibility criteria for appearing in the CEED 2024 exam will be determined by IIT Bombay. The institute will verify all the documents submitted the candidate during the application process. 

Meanwhile, the participating colleges will also determine the eligibility of the candidate during the counseling process, which will be conducted institute-wise. The candidate will have to furnish original documents, which will be used to determined the veracity of information furnished by the candidate in the CEED 2024 application form.

Q:   Is CEED 2024 eligibility criteria same as those required by participating colleges?

A:

The candidate may note that IIT Bombay is only responsible for conducting the CEED 2024 exam. Unlike UCEED 2024, it will not conduct any Joint Seat Allotment.  

This means the eligibility criteria prescribed by IIT Bombay is limited to appearing in the CEED 2024 exam.

Further, the participating institutes of CEED 2024 will individually determine the eligibility criteria for the M.Des courses. The eligibility criteria will be uploaded on the admission portals of these institutes.

CEED 2024 Admission Process

The step-wise admission process for CEED 2024 is given below.

Step 1: Submit the duly filled application form

The candidate has to fill out the form at the official admission portal - ceed.iitb.ac.in. Use only genuine and verifiable information. This is because details provided by the candidate will be verified at the time of counseling.

If any information is found to be incorrect or misleading, the candidate may be disqualified.

Step 2: Download the admit card

The admit card will be released a few weeks before the conduct of the design entrance. Download the admit card by entering your email ID and password.

On the day of the CEED 2024 exam, you will also need a valid photo ID proof along with the admit card.

Step 3: Appear in CEED 2024

The CEED question paper has two mandatory sections – A and B. Part A will comprise objective-type questions, while Part B will be subjective-type. Note that Part B answer booklets will only be evaluated if the candidate qualifies Part A. The qualifying marks for Part A will be released before the declaration of CEED 2024 results.

Step 4: Check CEED Result

The results will be declared for all candidates appearing in the CEED 2024 exam. However, only such candidates who qualify in the entrance exam will be issued merit ranks and will be eligible to participate in the counseling process.

Step 5: Apply to CEED-participating colleges

Clearing the CEED exam does not guarantee admission to any of the colleges accepting CEED exam scores. The candidate needs to apply to participating institutes based on their CEED 2024 scores. The participating institutes will conduct counseling and seat allotment at an institute-level.

How to Prepare for CEED 2024

The CEED 2024 question paper will be designed to evaluate the visual perception, creativity, drawing skills, logical reasoning, and communication skills of the candidate. Also, note that the CEED exam is kind of a design aptitude test. 

Here are some useful tips to prepare for the CEED 2024 entrance exam.

  1. Start your preparation early - One major mistake many candidates make is to start their exam preparation with very little time left for the exam. As you can understand, this is not the perfect recipe for success. So, start your preparation early.
  2. Follow the revised syllabus and pattern - The syllabus for the CEED 2024 exam has been revised. So, you need to follow the new syllabus.
  3. Solve sample papers, but with caution - Note that the sample papers can no longer be followed blindly, given the syllabus has changed. You need to only solve those problems that are still a part of the revised syllabus.
  4. Take notes during the study - These notes will not only help you stay focused and capture all key and sticking points but come the exam week, they will be most suited for quick revision.
  5. Take mock tests - These mocks will help you fix last-minute and silly errors.
  6. Stay positive and healthy - Stay away from negativity (like negative people), eat healthy, do some light exercise, and stay hydrated. 

CEED Answer Key and Question Paper 2024

IIT Bombay will release the draft answer key of CEED 2024 for Part A soon after the conclusion of the design entrance exam. The answer key will contain the official answers to all the questions asked in Part A. The UCEED 2024 question paper will be released along with the draft key. IIT Bombay, however, will not release any answer keys for Part B. This is because there are no model solutions for the subjective questions.

The candidate can consult the UCEED 2024 question paper and answer key to first calculate the number of correct attempts, and then the probable score.  

  • The answer key and question papers will be released on the official website.
  • Candidates will have the option to report discrepancies, if any, against the draft key.
  • Comments or objections against the draft key have to be filed through the candidate portal.
  • To make an objection (or complaint), use the Master Question Paper, which will be uploaded on the official website. 
  • The response of candidates for Part A is available for download only till the result of the CEED 2023 exam is declared.

The final answer key will be released after considering the comments/ feedback of candidates.

 

CEED Result 2024

The results of CEED 2024 will be declared tentatively in the 1st week of March 2024. The results will be released online at the admission portal of CEED 2024 - ceed.iitb.ac.in. To check their results, the candidate needs to log in to the result portal using their candidate credentials. 

The result will include the Part A marks for all candidates. However, the Part B marks and CEED 2024 merit ranks will only be released for shortlisted candidates.

To be included in the shortlist, candidates needed to qualify Part A.  

Part B is descriptive and as such, it is evaluated holistically based on the criteria mentioned in the question paper. The evaluated Answer Booklet for Part B is not released to the candidate. Also, there is no provision to re-evaluate either Part A or Part B. 

  • The scorecard of CEED 2024 will be available for download from around the 2nd week of March 2024 to the 2nd week of June 2024.  
  • The scorecard can be downloaded through the candidate portal. Hard copies of the scorecard are not sent to the candidate.
  • The final CEED score will be calculated by giving 25% weightage to Part A and 75% weightage to Part B.
  • The CEED 2024 scorecard will be valid for a period of ONE year from the date of declaration of results.
  • The scorecard can't be used as proof of date of birth, category, or disability status.

CEED Cutoff 2024

IIT Bombay will release the UCEED 2024 cutoff marks for Part A tentatively in the 2nd week of February 2024. The cut-off marks for Part A are category-specific. The cut-off marks for Part A are used to shortlist candidates. Note that Part B answer booklets will only be evaluated for shortlisted candidates.

Key points related to CEED 2023 Cut-off marks for Part A

  1. The cutoff marks are released only for Part A; no cutoffs are released for Part B 
  2. The category-specific cutoff marks are calculated using a pre-defined formula.
  3.  Part B answer booklet is evaluated only for shortlisted candidates or such candidates who meet the cutoff in their respective categories
  4. Part B is evaluated manually.

The admission cut-off for CEED 2023 will be determined by the participating institutions at the time of seat allotment and is different from the Part A cut-off. The admission cut-off is the minimum rank the candidate needs to secure in their category to get admission.

The cut-off (admission) would be determined based on factors like seat intake, total applications received for admission, the category of the candidate, etc.

CEED Counseling 2024

Note that unlike UCEED 2023, IIT Bombay does not conduct any Joint Seat Allotment for CEED 2023 qualified candidates.

Instead, the participating institutes of CEED 2024 will conduct counseling at an institute level. Candidates who are assigned a merit rank in CEED 2024 will have to apply directly to the relevant institute through their admission portal.

The counseling registration form will open soon after CEED 2024 results are declared. 

To apply for admission, the candidate has to go to the admission portal of the CEED 2024 participating institute and fill in the counseling registration form, upload their scorecards and any relevant documents.

The participating institutes will shortlist candidates based on their CEED 2024 merit ranks and may conduct further admission rounds, including personal interviews. 

The seat allotment will be based on the final merit rank prepared by the institute.

Q:   What will be the exam pattern for CEED 2023?

A:
The CEED 2024 exam will have two parts - Part A and Part B. Part A will be conducted in computer-based mode and include three types of questions - MCQ, MSQ, and NAT. The duration of the paper will be 1 hour. Meanwhile, Part B will be a sketching-based paper and will be conducted in an offline mode. The duration of the paper will be 2 hour and will include 5 questions.

Q:   Will I be assigned a merit rank if I fail to qualify CEED 2024?

A:
The CEED 2024 will have two parts - Part A and Part B. The Part B answer booklet will only be evaluated if the candidate qualifies Part A. Consequently, all candidates who qualify Part A will be assigned a merit rank. On the other hand, candidates who fail to qualify Part A will not be assigned a merit rank and can't take part in any counseling and seat allotment process conducted by the participating colleges. Candidates who are assigned a CEED 2024 merit rank are eligible to apply to the counseling processes.
