Executive MBA or EMBA is a postgraduate management programme for professionals already working in dignified positions. Executive MBA is designed for working professionals with considerable work experience so that they can enhance their career prospects. EMBA is of shorter duration (15 months to 18 months) and often imparted in part-time mode.

The aspirants for Executive MBA degree need to appear in entrances like CAT, XAT, GMAT etc. to fulfil Executive MBA eligibility. Top B-schools like the IIMs provide campus placement to their Executive MBA degree students. Executive MBA eligibility includes completing a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 50 per cent aggregate or equivalent from a recognised university along with at least 2 years of working experience. Executive MBA fees range between INR 10 Lakh to INR 40 Lakh, which is a little more than the regular MBA programme.

The benefit of pursuing an Executive MBA degree is that the employer company often provides financial assistance by sponsoring its employees for the program. Now, more graduates prefer to work for a few years and pursue an Executive MBA instead of a Regular MBA, as it gives them a competitive edge. The average Executive MBA salary offered after completion of the Executive MBA programme is INR 13 LPA and above.

A. The course content or the syllabus of the Executive MBA is not very different from that of the two-year Regular MBA. The core subjects are the same, but the overall course content or the curriculum is designed in a more advanced manner which is suitable to cater to the knowledge needs of the Executives, who are at the mid-senior level of an organisational hierarchy.

The pace of class delivery is also higher since the duration of the course is one year. There are fewer electives for Executive MBA students and the pedagogy is more interactive.

Q. Is there any internship or industry exposure during an Executive MBA?

A. Since the students of Executive MBA already have work experience, they do require industry training. Rather, the class utilises the students' diverse work experience through multiple discussions, case studies, etc. Graduates of Executive MBA can get a plethora of job options after completing this course. The valuable skills learned in this programme also help them in widening their scope and join different sectors. Nowadays, recruiters are constantly on the lookout for applicants who have the ideal combination of academic knowledge and industrial experience.

Q. Can I work along with Executive MBA programme?

A. When it comes to a one-year full-time Executive MBA, it is not possible to work alongside - simply due to the dedication, it demands. The curriculum and course design along with other campus activities hardly leave enough bandwidth to continue with work. In case an Executive MBA aspirant wishes to continue with his/her job alongside the course, a Part-Time MBA or Distance MBA would be a more suitable option.

The part-time or weekend programmes are designed to fit the hectic schedules of working professionals. Classes for executive MBA programmes typically take place on weekends or in the evenings, which allows working people to easily balance both their studies and their job.

Q. Is an Executive MBA worth it?

A. The majority of Executive MBA programmes include business mentoring and leadership growth throughout the curriculum, assisting students in developing a better understanding of themselves and their management styles. They become more successful leaders on the job and in real-time as a result of this development.

Through international electives, seasoned instructors, as well as the international student and alumni community of an institution, EMBA students may expect to broaden their business networks. This will enable them to connect with people who can aid them in their present professional responsibilities right away.

Q. Is the placement process conducted at the end of the Executive MBA programme?

A. Yes, the placement process is conducted upon completion of the programme where a host of companies participate to recruit for their mid-senior to higher-level management positions. The placement rate for every college differs according to its reputation and previous success of the academic years.

Students can explore and pick the college of their choice. The companies that usually hire Executive MBA graduates from reputed colleges are Accenture, Deloitte, TCS, Wipro, Amazon, HCL etc.

Q. Do I need to quit job to pursue an Executive MBA?

A. For a rigorous full-time one-year Executive MBA programme, one needs to invest this one year completely to do justice to the rigorous curriculum. One can either quit the job or take a complete break or sabbatical for one year. Several companies allow their employees a study break which they can utilise. However, if a student is aiming to explore opportunities in a different role or sector, it is best to quit and then pursue the program.

Q. Is Executive MBA as good as regular MBA?

A. The difference between an MBA and an Executive MBA degree can be recognized in terms of their target audience, required work experience, and class schedule. An MBA degree is suitable for individuals with 0 to 5 years of work experience, while an Executive MBA degree is designed for individuals with 10 to 15 years of work experience on average.
