NEST 2022 application process has been extended till May 21, 11.45 pm. Originally, the application deadline was May 18, but it has been extended for three days. The process had commenced on February 23. NEST 2022 exam will be conducted on June 18. The NEST 2022 admit card will be released online on June 6. The result of the exam will be announced on July 5. The exam authorities have released the NEST 2022 syllabus and eligibility criteria. As compared to last year, the exam timeline is scheduled earlier. 

What is NEST?

National Entrance Screening Test (NEST) is conducted jointly by the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar and Mumbai University - Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CEBS), Mumbai. NEST 2022 Application Process

The NEST 2022 application form is available in an online mode on the official website of the exam. Candidates need to first register by providing their personal and educational details. After receiving the NEST 2022 registration credentials via email and SMS, they will have to login again and fill up the NEST application form with the rest of the personal, academic details, exam city preference, course preference and document upload. After all details on the NEST application form are filled, candidates need to pay the application fee. Candidates can make the payment of the NEST 2022 application fee in online (through credit/ debit card/net banking) mode.

NEST 2022 Eligibility Criteria 

The eligibility criteria for the NEST exam is as follows:

  • Candidates should pass Class 12 in the Science stream from a recognised board in India with a minimum of 60 per cent aggregate (55 per cent for SC/PwD category candidates)
  • Candidates should have passed Class 12. Candidates who have appeared for their Class 12 exams in 2022 are also eligible to apply
  • Candidates should have studied a combination of three subjects - Biology, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics in Classes 11 and 12

Age Criteria

Candidates belonging to the General and OBC categories should be born on or after August 1, 2002, in order to fulfil the NEST eligibility criteria. Age limit relaxation of five years is given to candidates belonging to SC/ST/Divyangjan category.

NEST 2022 Admission Process

The admission process for NEST 2022 involves five steps, which is represented in the infographic below. While the first step is to apply for the exam, the most critical step is to appear for the NEST 2022 exam and qualify for it. The final step is to participate in the NEST counselling process and take admission by paying the requisite fee.

NEST 2022 Exam Centres

The NEST 2022 is expected to be conducted in centres located in 116 cities across India. Candidates have to select up to five cities as per their preferred NEST centre location while filling the application form. The exam authorities will try to allot the NEST exam centre 2022 as per their preference and availability, The final allotted test centre will be mentioned on the NEST 2022 admit card. After the issuance of the admit card, candidates' requests to change centres will not be entertained.

NEST 2022 Syllabus

NEST 2022 syllabus has been released by the exam authorities. Questions in the NEST exam are asked from topics present in the syllabus of Class 11 and 12 books of the Science stream. The subjects include Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. The exam officials have stated that questions in the NEST exam are mainly the science syllabus of Class 1I and 12 that is present in NCERT/ CBSE books. NEST 2022 Exam Pattern

According to the NEST 2022 exam pattern, the test will be conducted in a CBT mode for a duration of 3.5 hours. The exam will carry 68 questions from four sections - Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology. Each section will carry 17 questions, 12 MCQs and five MSQs. There is a differential marking scheme for the types of questions. Each section will carry 50 marks, making the total marks of the exam to be 200. The exam will be conducted in two slots on a single day.

NEST 2022 Preparation Tips

Like every exam, NEST 2022 preparation also needs a systematic and dedicated strategy and approach. Since the syllabus is similar to that of Class 11 and Class 12, students should first focus on completing the syllabus and strengthening the concepts. After this, they should be familiar with the exam pattern and structure. Students should take ample mock tests and solve previous years' question papers to be able to decide their strong and weak points and test-taking strategy. They should also refer to the right books and study materials to boost their subject-wise knowledge.

NEST 2022 Mock Test

Mock tests are an integral part of NEST preparation. Although the exam officials do not release the official NEST mock tests. However, aspirants and students may solve unofficial NEST mock tests provided by coaching institutes. Solving mock tests give candidates exposure to the question types and topics as well as help build the exam-taking strategy for the actual day of the exam. Along with taking the NEST mock tests, students should also get those analysed to know their areas of improvement.

NEST 2022 Admit Card

After successful payment of the application fee, candidates will have to download their NEST 2022 admit card by entering their registration credentials. The NEST 2022 admit card will carry information such as personal details, exam date and time, exam centre address and exam day guidelines and instructions. NEST admit card is a mandatory document to be carried to the exam centre. The NEST admit card 2022 will be available only in online mode and candidates must preserve it till the exam's counselling or admission process is complete.  

NEST 2022 Exam Analysis and Student Reactions

On the day of the NEST 2022 exam, Shiksha will bring the exam analysis and student reactions. The NEST 2022 analysis will cover the aspects of overall and section-wise difficulty level, topics covered, question types, time management, among others. The NEST 2022 analysis and student reactions will also talk about the challenges faced in the exam and if any technical difficulty was faced since it is an online test. 

NEST 2022 Question Paper

NEST 2022 question papers will be released by the exam officials after the conduct of the exam. On the day of the exam, candidates will not be given a hard copy of the NEST question paper since the exam is held in online mode. Students who are preparing for NEST 2022 can download the previous years' NEST question papers here. The question papers of NEST carry questions from each section with four answer options. In the official question papers released by the exam officials, the correct answer options are also provided, which will help students and aspirants prepare better by knowing whether the answer option chosen by them is correct or not. 

NEST 2022 Answer Key

The exam officials will release the NEST 2022 answer keys within a week of conducting the exam. The answer keys of NEST 2022 will be sent to candidates' registered email addresses along with their answer scripts. Candidates can check the correct answer and calculate their estimated score and hence gauge their admission chances to the NEST participating institutes. Test-takers may also submit objections against one or more NEST 2022 answer keys. There is no fee or charge for submitting objections against answer keys. The answer key of NEST 2022 will mention the correct options for each section i.e. General, Physics, Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics in the same pdf file only. 

NEST 2022 Result

NEST 2022 result is expected to be declared in the first week of September on the official website of the exam. NEST merit list/ result will contain the roll numbers and/or names of candidates qualifying for the integrated MSc entrance exam. Candidates will have to download their scorecards by entering their login credentials. The scorecard will carry the information on sectional and overall scores, percentile and All India Rank (AIR). The scorecards should also be preserved till the NEST 2022 admission process is over.

NEST 2022 Topper Interviews

The list of NEST 2022 toppers will be released after the declaration of the result. The topper interviews will delve into their success and preparation strategy along with their future plans and aspirations. After going through the NEST topper interviews, aspirants who are planning to appear for next years' exams can get preparation tips and exam-taking strategy from a student's perspective.

NEST 2022 Cutoff

NISER Bhubaneswar releases the NEST 2022 cutoff after the declaration of the result. The NEST 2022 cutoff is released in two categories - Section-wise Minimum Admissible Score (SMAS), which refers to sectional cutoff and Minimum Admissible Percentile (MAP) or overall percentile. According to the officials, for each section, 20 per cent of the average of the best 100 scores in that section will be considered as SMAS. SMAS for different sections can obviously be of different numerical value. Along with the sectional NEST cutoff, candidates also need to clear the overall NEST 2022 cutoff percentile. The NEST 2022 cutoff for General category candidates is 95 percentile, for OBC candidates in 90 percentile and that of the reserved category candidates is 75 percentile. 

NEST 2022 Counselling

Candidates who would qualify for the exam will be considered eligible to participate in the NEST 2022 counselling process. The counselling process for NEST 2022 will be conducted in three rounds. Qualifying candidates will have to upload documents that will be verified by the officials and seats will be allotted to them. They have to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) and pay the requisite fee to complete the admission process. At the end of the counselling process, NISER Bhubaneswar and CEBS Mumbai will release separate institute-wise merit lists.

The standard of questions asked in the NEST exam is higher than the ones asked in JEE Main. However, experts share that with respect to difficulty level, JEE Advanced is tougher than NEST.

Q. Who qualifies for the NEST exam?

A. Candidates who have secured more than 60 per cent aggregate (55 per cent for SC/PwD category candidates) in their Class 12 exams are eligible to take the NEST exam provided they have a science stream at the 10+2 level. Apart from this, aspirants should be born on or after August 1, 2000 (General and OBC categories) in order to fulfil NEST eligibility criteria. Age relaxation of five years is given to candidates belonging to SC/ST/PwD category.

Q. How difficult is the NEST exam?

A. NEST exam was not difficult for students who had their basics clear of topics taught in the Science stream at Class 11 and Class 12 levels. If the comparison is done then NEST is more difficult than JEE Main but easier than JEE Advanced.
