MHT CET 2026 to Have Two Attempts; 78% Candidates Favour 'Twice-a-Year' Format for Other State Exams
The Maharashtra State CET cell has announced two attempts of MHT CET 2026. The exam will be held in CBT mode in April and May 2026. To seek what candidates think about the two attempts and whether other states should also adopt the 'twice-a-year' model for their entrance tests, shiksha.com ran a poll, and the results are now available. Read below.
MHT CET exam will be twice a year going forward. In 2026, the exam will be held from April 11 to 19, 2026, for the PCM group, and the PCB group exam will be conducted from April 21 to 26. The second attempt for PCM group will be held between May 14 to 17, and for the PCB group, the exam will be conducted from May 10 to 11. Maharashtra CET cell has adopted the JEE Main 2026 exam model for the conduct of the engineering entrance exam. With this, Maharashtra has become the first state in the nation to conduct state level engineering entrance exam twice a year.
MHT CET 2026 registration is expected to start this month. To seek what candidates think about this attempt, and whether other states should also adopt this, we asked our student community, "MHT CET will be held twice a year. Should Other state level engineering exams also be held twice?" and here is what the candidates responded via Shiksha poll:
78% of the candidates who participated in the poll are in favour of conducting state-level entrance exams twice a year. They said, "Yes, conducting exams twice will benefit students".
However, 22% of the candidates said that once a year exam is enough as it is less stressful.
A poll participant, Arth, also commented, "No, I think that level of the paper may be hard as it will be conducted twice."
As per the poll, it is clear that the majority of the candidates want other states to also conduct the engineering state-level exam twice a year. They would like to have an extra attempt to improve their score. While a few students also feel that the two can become stressful, and the exam standard can become tougher.
