Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson has said that the Indian students who are in Canada have been advised to stay connected with the Indian High Commission, and Indian consulates which are operating there.

Ministry of External Affairs has stated that the decision to suspend the visa policy in Canada will not affect Indian students, as they are Indians. The government of India today suspended the visa policy in Canada till further notice.

With tension between the two nations, India and Canada escalating, parents of Indian students, who are currently in Canada are worried about their childrenโ€™s safety. While briefing the media in New Delhi, MEA spokesperson, Arindam Bagchi said that the Indian students who are in Canada have been advised to stay connected with the Indian High Commission, and Indian consulates which are operating there.  

โ€œThe Visa Policy will not affect them as they are Indian citizens,โ€ Bagchi said.

He added: โ€œWe have advised students to remain alert. The visa-related decision will not affect them (students) as they are Indian citizens.โ€ Arindam Bagchi says, "We've issued an advisory to take precautions. Our Consulate is working there. We have said that if they face any problem, they can contact our Consulate.โ€

Yesterday, the Ministry of External Affairs issued an advisory to Indian students and other Indian nationals living in Canada to exercise utmost caution. Indian Government has advised Indians to not travel to regions where Indians have been targeted in recent times.

The External Affairs Ministry advisory stated, that in view of growing anti-India activities and politically-condoned hate crimes and criminal violence in Canada, all Indian nationals there and those contemplating travel are urged to exercise utmost caution. Recently, threats have particularly targeted Indian diplomats and sections of the Indian community who oppose the anti-India agenda. Indian nationals are therefore advised to avoid travelling to regions and potential venues in Canada that have seen such incidents.
