Bengal Govt To Appoint Doctors As Asst Prof Instead of RMO
Bengal government has decided to hire doctors as Assistant Professor instead of Resident Medical Officer.
A senior official of the West Bengal government has said that the state government has decided to remove the age-old post of Resident Medical Officer (RMO) and would start hiring doctors as Assistant Professor. However, the government is yet to decide on the eligibility criteria of these Assistant Professors.
While the post of RMO cum Clinical Tutor or Demonstrator would be removed, the appointments of the Assistant Professor would be done through the West Bengal Medical Education Services. The doctors who are already serving as RMO would continue on their posts.
The official statement of the state government reads, "We have decided to do away with the post of RMO. But those who are currently in the post will continue to serve as such. We will further not recruit any doctor as RMO. In case those continuing as RMO possess the required qualification, they will be promoted. For the existing RMOs, there will be no change in the service rules."
To become eligible for the recruitment process, a Master of Surgery (MS) and Doctor of Medicine (MD) will have to serve at least one year as a Senior Resident (SR). The state is working on deciding the other eligibility criteria for the recruitment of Assistant Professors.
"We are working on it and once it is decided, we will issue a notification detailing the criterion on the eligibility for the post," the official said.
