Govt's various steps to make medical education affordable and accessible
Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Dr Bharti Pravin Pawar has informed the Rajya Sabha about the various steps taken by the government to increase medical seats in India, read here to know more.
While how to increase medical seats and make them affordable in India is being debated throughout the country, especially after the plight of Ukraine returned medical students, Dr Bharti Pravin Pawar has apprised the Rajya Sabha that the government has taken several steps to increase the opportunities for medical studies in India.
As per Dr Bharti, the number of undergraduate seats has gone up from 51,348 before 2014 to 89875 seats as of the date which is an increase of 75% and as far as postgraduate seats are confirmed, they have gone up by 93% from 31,185 seats before 2014 to 60202 seats.
50% seats in private medical colleges to be charged at par with GMCs
After medical student Naveen's death in Ukraine, and his father's demand from Prime Minister Modi to make medical education affordable in India. PM Modi had reiterated the National Medical Commission's (NMC) guidelines for fees of 50% of seats of the private medical college which suggests that half the seats in private medical colleges will be charged at par with government medical colleges.
PM Modi had tweeted, "A few days back, the government has taken another big decision, which will benefit the poor and middle-class children. We have decided that half the seats in private medical colleges will be charged at par with government medical colleges."
