Gujarat: Recruitment for five new medical colleges to start soon, says state health minister

Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel has said that the upcoming five new medical colleges will start functioning from the year 2022-23.
As reported earlier, Gujarat is all set to establish five new medical colleges with a budget of INR 2500 crore from the next academic year. Yesterday, the state health minister Rushikesh Patel reiterated this and said that the five new medical colleges will start functioning from the 2022-23 session.
"Tender process for the same will start soon. Once it's done, the staff recruitment will commence," as reported by TOI.
He said this during the inauguration of BJ Medical College's annual fest 'BJ Beats' on the Civil Hospital campus. In the evening, he launched the Gujarat chapter of the Telemedicine Society of India.
Dr Vivek Dave, secretary of the chapter, said the doctors in the state are working extensively with the technology, and the chapter was in the making for the past few years.
"The advancements in technology has helped many lives during the pandemic. Aim of the initiative is to ensure that the patients even in the remote places get good treatment," said a member.
Five new medical colleges to add 1,200 MBBS seats
The new medical colleges are expected to add 1,200 MBBS seats in the state, which is nearly 21% of the total number of prevailing seats in Gujarat.
An official in the health department had said, “The new medical colleges in Morbi, Godhra and Porbandar are expected to start in 2021-22. The inspection process by National Medical Commission (NMC) has been completed. The new medical colleges will add about 150 seats each."
