MP Cabinet approves six new medical colleges; allots INR 1547.45 crore
Madhya Pradesh healthcare sector is all set to get a major boost as the state Cabinet has given nod for setting up six new medical colleges in the state.
The state Cabinet of Madhya Pradesh led by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has approved for setting up of six new medical colleges in the tribal districts of the state including Mandla, Singrauli, Sheopur, Mandsaur, Neemuch, and Rajgarh.
Madhya Pradesh government has already allotted an amount of INR 1547.45 crore for constructing these new medical colleges. Out of this total funding, INR 249.63 crore are alloted for Mandla college, INR 270.59 crore for Mandsaur, INR 255.78 crore for Neemuch, INR 256.55 crore for Rajgarh and INR 256.83 crore for Sheopur, and INR 258.07 crore for Singrauli college.
The Cabinet also decided that SIMET (Madhya Pradesh State Institute of Educational Management and Training ) will be separated from the Academy of Administration and would be established as an independent unit. It is being done to find out and develop proper processes related to educational planning.
As per the data provided by the MoS Health Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar in the Lok Sabha, MP has a total of 23 medical colleges and out of these 14 colleges are run by the government and nine medical colleges are private ones. The total number of MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) seats in MP is 3585 and nearly 2135 MBBS seats are provided by the government institutes whereas 1450 seats are provided by the private colleges.
