Mumbai: Medical teacher's demands remain unfulfilled after prolonged strike
The medical teachers of Grant Medical college in JJ Hospital, Mumbai were on strike from January 5th, even after the strike is over, their demands remain unfulfilled, says a report.
For over two months, the medical teachers of the Grant Medical college in JJ Hospital, Mumbai were on strike, the protest is over now but the demands are still unfulfilled.
These medical teachers demanded regularisation of their services and implementation of the 7th pay commission for standardised salaries and timely promotions.
As per the report of Citizen Matters Mumbai, even after putting in hundreds of hours during the pandemic in hospitals, many younger doctors are not established as permanent employees. The doctors said that in comparison to government hospitals, private hospitals offer job security, high salaries and promotions every 3-5 years.
Dr Sachin Mulkutkar, HOD of the Physiology Department in the Grant Medical College of JJ Hospital and head of the Maharashtra State Medical Teachers Association (MSMTA) said, “The decision to make employees permanent is entirely a political decision, and it only requires a nod from the Cabinet Ministry."
Moreover, more than 1000 nurses from the state run JJ, St George and GT hospitals went on strike on Thursday against the state government's decision to outsource nurse services. All planned surgeries got postponed due to this strike.
Nashik referral hospital: Docs, nurses plan to go on hunger strike
At Nashik regional referral hospital, reportedly nearly 500 employees including doctors and nurses have been working without salaries for the past few months and now they are planning to go on a hunger strike to raise their grievances to the district administration.
