NEET PG 2025: SC Likely to Hear Transparency Plea on Sept 19; Results Declared a Month Ago, Counselling Still Pending
Almost a month has passed since the August 19 result declaration, yet centralised All India Quota (AIQ) counselling is still to begin.
Even after a month of NEET PG 2025 results being declared on August 19, the centralized counselling is yet to begin. The delay has been caused because of the transparency petitions pending before the Supreme Court. The petition is expected to come up for hearing on September 19.
The case is listed before a bench of Justices J.B. Pardiwala and K.V. Viswanathan.
The petitions challenge the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) for releasing only question IDs along with the provisional answer key. Petitioners have argued that without access to the actual question papers, candidates cannot verify the correctness of evaluation. They have urged the Supreme Court to direct NBEMS to publish full question papers and answer keys.
NEET PG 2025: Background of the Case
The transparency issue has become a recurring flashpoint in postgraduate medical admissions as NBEMS has not shared the answer key of NEET PG till now, while in case of NEET UG, question papers and answer keys are released.
In May this year, the Supreme Court directed NBEMS to hold NEET PG 202 exam in a single shift, rejecting its plan to hold the exam in multiple shifts. The apex court has also observed in its hearing the need to curb seat-blocking and increase transparency in postgraduate admissions.
NEET PG Results Out, Counselling on Hold
Almost a month has passed since the August 19 result declaration, yet centralised All India Quota (AIQ) counselling is still to begin. With the case pending in the Supreme Court, nearly half of the PG medical seats across the country remain in limbo. Some states such as Kerala, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu have moved ahead with their counselling schedules, but the national process has been stalled awaiting clarity from the Court.
The September 19 hearing will be crucial not just for this year’s admissions but also for deciding how transparent postgraduate medical examinations should be in future.
