Nursing students in Maharashtra are not pleased with the government's decision to outsource the hiring of 1,749 of the 4,500 vacancies across the state.
Nurses and nursing students in Maharashtra have protested against the state government's order to outsource hiring of 1,749 of the 4,500 vacancies across the state.
To protest against the order, the nurses of government medical colleges and hospitals boycotted their duties between 7:30 am to 8:30 am on Monday.
Nurses warn of indefinite strike from Saturday
The nurses have warned the government that they will stop work completely on Thursday and Friday and if their demands are not met then they will go on an indefinite strike from Saturday.
"We are opposing the entire GR [government resolution]. Both, the DMER and the department of health services have issued the same GR, stating that nurses will be hired through an outsourced agency. This will not just mean lower pay, but also no promotions as we move up in experience," said Arun Kadam, MSNA executive president, as reported by TOI.
The nurses have alleged that despite being on the frontlines of giving life-saving services, they have been ignored. They demand that decision to transfer them every six years should be revoked, as reported by Times Now.
Moreover, they demand their salaries should be at par with the central government nurses and the vacancies should be filled up soon. The another demand of the nurses is that the nurses who are on a contractual basis must be made permanent.
