Suspecting a scam in filling PG medical seats in Tamil Nadu for the academic session 2020-2021, Madras High Court is considering a CBI inquiry.

PG medical seats scam in TN: Madras HC mulls CBI probe

In Tamil Nadu, a majority of postgraduate vacancies were filled in 13 private colleges for the academic session 2020-2021 reportedly without holding mop-up counselling as mandated by the top court of India. Now, Madras High Court is suspecting a scam in this and considering a CBI probe into this matter.

While hearing a writ appeal filed by Dr G Selvarajan, former secretary of the Selection Committee, Directorate of Medical Education (DME), the Madras High Court bench comprising Chief Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari and Justice D Bharatha Chakravarthy has asked why a CBI enquiry should not be conducted into the case.

Dr Selvarajan found guilty of malpractice in filling these posts

Dr Selvarajan’s writ appeal sought to quash a single judge bench order, where the court had found him and others guilty of malpractice in filling 90 out of 113 management quota PG medical seats in 13 private colleges in Tamil Nadu. These colleges reportedly filled the PG medical seats without going through the NEET counselling process.

As per this order given on Feb 22, 2022, Dr Selvarajan and others filled the vacancies for 2020-2021 without conducting the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) mop-up counselling round which is mandated by the Supreme Court and Medical Council of India. The Madras High Court bench also asked the state government whether it had followed the February 22 court order or not.
