The Delhi government has released ₹108 crore as the third instalment of grants-in-aid to 12 Delhi University colleges that it fully funds. Another ₹24 crore has been cleared for urgent expenses such as electricity, maintenance, and pending staff salaries.

A senior official from the Directorate of Higher Education (DHE) said the funds were released to ensure that salary disbursements are made before Diwali. “Colleges have been asked to prioritise salary payments and submit spending details at the earliest,” the official added.

The list of colleges includes Acharya Narendra Dev College, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, Maharaja Agrasen College, Shaheed Rajguru College of Applied Sciences for Women, and Aditi Mahavidyalaya, among others.

This is the third round of funding for the financial year 2024–25. The first two instalments were disbursed in April and July. Officials said the process has been streamlined to avoid the salary delays that caused protests in the past.

Teachers’ associations welcomed the move but urged the government to fix a fixed release calendar. “We appreciate the funds coming before exams, but the uncertainty remains. Salaries should never depend on reminders,” said a teacher at one of the east Delhi colleges.

The ₹24 crore emergency amount will cover maintenance, lab requirements, and pre-exam activities. The DHE has reiterated its commitment to regular support and better coordination with the University of Delhi.
