Banaras Hindu University is conducting a one-week campaign at the premises concerning suicide prevention and awareness. The week-long programme will begin today i.e. September 4 and will end on the suicide prevention day i.e. September 10, 2024. The programme intends to aware students at various levels to outstretch cognition and promote Help Seeking Behaviour and Well-Being. The campaign will further allow Banaras Hindu University to educate students and the community about the signs one must know that highlight mental illness and why seeking help is required to overcome suicidal thoughts. 

BHU Suicide Prevention Programme Schedule

On day 1, the pledge activity on the theme 'Suicide Prevention' will be conducted followed by a poster-making event, open mic and slogan writing event on days 2, 3 and 4 respectively. The awareness quest on day 5, Nukkad natak on day 6 and a silent walk on day 7 will be conducted. These activities are part of a suicide prevention programme with the aim of "World Suicide Prevention Day: "Changing the Narrative on Suicide - Start the Conversation." The theme focuses on reducing stigma and preventing suicide which has become a major problem lately. 

Students from the main campus, the south campus at Barkachha, and university schools will join the noble cause. The Dean of Students will lead the programme and the Associate Dean of Students (Student Development) will take the initiative to smoothly conduct the programme. BHU further aims to address the challenges faced due to mental illness that leads one to commit suicide.
