This year Engineering stream of EAMCET 2011 followed the IIT-JEE way, as questions tested a student's level of understanding of subjects. The pattern resembled the IIT paper pattern as majority of questions were numeric and problem-based rather than being simply theory-based. EAMCET-2011, held on 8th May across Andhra Pradesh witnessed 2,70,022 students appearing for the engineering and 65,315 for the medical stream.

If experts are to be believed, students who have undergone IIT training are more likely to come up with better results. According to them, the MPC (engineering stream) paper will pose challenges even for top ranking students. Generally students expect theory-based or straight forward questions in EAMCET, but this year, the paper tested high levels of IQ. Previously in EAMCETS, the top rankers used to score 100 per cent marks, but this year it was a tough nut to crack. According to EAMCET-2011 analysis, among the three subjects for the engineering stream, Physics was toughest.

On the other hand, BPC (medical stream) stuck to its old pattern and tested rote learning ability of students. According to an expert, Botany section was pretty lengthy and students would have to spend over one hour to solve just this part. According to officials, the paper also judged the time management ability of the students.

As per the initial EAMCET-2011 analysis, the answer could not be derived in the medical stream, as Question No. 105 (Code C) confused students. While the answer for this question was supposed to be 25,000 calories, the options given were different. Similarly, the options given in Question no 91 (Code B) of Physics did not have the correct answer. Question No. 57 of the same code seemed to have multiple answers (both options three and four). According to EAMCET expert, ‘In the engineering stream, Question No. 89 (Code D) in Physics section was found to be ambiguous as variables given were not defined well,'.

EAMCET authorities also said that both the question papers were free from errors. As per D N Reddy, chairman, EAMCET, the ranks will be announced by July 2 and councelling will take place on July 15.
