Mumbai-based HR College scores best in NAAC
Mumbai-based HR College of Commerce and Economics has emerged as the highest scorer in National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.72. The college topped its own previous performance of CGPA 3.46 in 2008.
About 60 colleges went through the accreditation process for the third time this year. So far in the third round, Tata Institute of Social Sciences is the only university that has scored over HR with 3.88.
According to a statement, HR principal Indu Shahani said that among colleges, HR is the first in India with 3.72 CGPA score under the new revised scheme. She further added that the visiting NAAC team was impressed about HR being a student empowering college, and its use of technology to expand access and better quality of education.
The NAAC team, headed by C Thangamuthu, former VC of Bharathidasan University, visited the campus in January, 2013. They recommended that HR should expand into other streams, instead of merely being a uni-faculty college. The team also lauded the students' Chirag initiative under which 126 villages were adopted and solar lights supplied.
