NASSCOMs initiative to train and develop Animation & Gaming industry in India
According to the NASSCOM survey report, animation and gaming industry in India has long crossed the $400 bn mark. Thus, NASSCOM Animation Education Initiative that aims to train and develop Animation & Gaming industry in India needs to be taken seriously to stand up to the challenge to provide well-trained workforce to the industry.
Currently, India gets 1 to 2% of animation production work. To make it an animation hub, experts are needed for all the five stages of producing an animated movie, which has been defined as:
- IP and Content Development Stage, where new ideas are generated and intellectual property rights of similar existing content are discussed. It is at this stage, an animation studio works on getting the funds, procure assets, schedule processes and integrate resource for a production.
- Pre-production Stage, where script is prepared, characters are designed, and storyboards and layouts are developed.
- Production Stage, where details are added to the character to give it individuality, actual painting is done to the foreground and background, inking process takes place and visual effects are added.
- Post-production Stage, where finishing touches are given to production such as final sound recording, editing colors, adding special sound effects, and testing the animation product.
- Marketing, Distribution, and Exhibition Stage, where animation movies are promoted and distributed, DVD and cinema releases take place and TV screenings happen.
Most animators and animation industry professionals are needed and employed in the production process. However, IP and Content Development Stage is vital to attract new projects to India while skilled workers in the pre-production stage are much in demand. The domains of character designing and script writing offer lucrative job offers and a lot of scope for creativity. Quality knowledge in the field of fine arts and dramatics also help animation experts to propel themselves ahead in the game.
