A look at MH-CET 2014 new paper pattern
Maharastra Common Entrance Test (MH-CET) is back with a bang. And this time, the test will be held online. Conducted for admission to MBA (Master of Business Administration) and MMS (Master in Management Studies) courses across Maharastra, MH-CET was discontinued because of Common Management Aptitude Test (CMAT). AICTE had made it mandatory for all states to conduct CMAT. However, post Supreme Court’s intervention, CMAT’s mandatory status was overruled. MH-CET was last held in 2011-12 session in pen-paper format.
According to a notification (in Marathi) posted by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Mumbai, MAH-MBA/MMS-CET will be held on March 15 and 16, 2014. The notice further stated that about 85% seats in government/aided colleges and 65% seats in non-aided and minority colleges will be filled using MH-CET scores. The rest will be filled by CAT/CMAT/MAT/XAT scores.
Paper Pattern
Please note, DTE is yet to release the sample papers or open registration.
Traditionally, the exam consisted of 200 multiple choice questions to be attempted in 150 minutes. There is no negative marking. The test covered areas like Data Interpretation and Data Sufficiency, Quantitative Ability, Logical Reasoning, Visual Reasoning, Verbal Ability, and Reading Comprehension.
However experts are sceptical about the acceptance of the new online pattern. One of the chief arguments made against CMAT was its online format. Many students who appear for MH-CET come from remote areas without any or very little access to computers and internet. “The new format calls for computer proficiency, which can pose a huge hurdle. Also, the exam syllabus is not clear as DTE is yet to release any sample papers. In 2011, the written test had about 25 questions on Visual Reasoning. We are not sure how will it be transformed in the online test,” said Ankur Agarwal from CATgurus.com.
Other details
DTE has not yet announced the dates of registration or selection criteria. Last time, they had done away with the GD-PI rounds. According to sources, the official notification should be out in January 2014, which will disclose all the necessary information.
