CBSE postpones NEET-UG in Karnataka
The dates for NEET-UG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for MBBS and BDS) 2013 and Karnataka polls happen to fall on the same day! Consequently, CBSE has posponed the exam date for Karnataka to May 18, 2013.
The exam was earlier scheduled to be conducted on May 5, 2013. Being an all-India exam, NEET-UG for every other state and Union Territory will be conducted on May 5, 2013, except Karnataka due to the polls in the state on the same day. To be conducted for the first time, over 10 lakh aspirants are expected to take this national level exam from all across India.
NEET UG will be conducted on behalf of Medical Council of India and Dental Council of India for admission to all medical and dental colleges in the country. Around 40,000 students from Karnataka will be appearing for the test at seven centres in 5 cities – Bangalore, Belgaum, Mangalore, Gulbarga and Davangere. Medical Education Minister S A Ramdas said, " In all, around 1 lakh people could miss out on voting in case NEET is conducted on 5th May. We have asked the HRD ministry to postpone NEET in Karnataka," reported a national daily.
The whole situation isn’t helping students appearing for the exam. Even the results for NEET-PG which was conducted in the month of November -December 2012 hasn’t been declared as yet. A medical aspirant, who wishes to be anonymous complained, "NEET-PG is playing havoc in our lives as the results are not being declared. Initally we were eagerly waiting for the results but now we are irritated. This is wrong. They are just putting so many careers at stake."
