According to information, IIT aspirants from CBSE Class XII have to score at least 78.2% to be in the Top 20 percentile of candidates for entrance exam eligibility

With the announcement of CBSE Class XII results, the wait finally is over for the much-awaited cut-offs for JEE. According to information, IIT aspirants from CBSE Class XII have to score at least 78.2% to be in the Top 20 percentile of candidates for entrance exam eligibility. Besides this, aspirant also need to have qualified in JEE (Main) exam to be able to appear for JEE (Advanced) scheduled to be conducted on June 2.

As per CBSE, the cut-off scores are as follows:

  • General : 391 (78.2 per cent)
  • OBCs : 389
  • SC: 350
  • STs : 338

Under the new two-tier system, students who have qualified in JEE (Main) will be eligible to appear for JEE (Advanced) provided they fall in the Top 20 percentile in their respective boards. Vineet Joshi, CBSE Chairman informed that the Top 20 percentile comprises 20% candidates who have passed the CBSE Class XII exam or around 7.3 lakh students.

The CBSE Class XII results hold utmost importance for students aiming for to get into Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and National Institutes of Technology (NITs) as these marks will be a deciding factor for admission to these institutes. A student has to be in the top 20 percentile of CBSE board exam scorers to be eligible to apply to IITs. However, for NITs, the school board scores will form 40 per cent of the admission criteria and performance in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) will account for the rest.
