CMAT not cancelled; to be one of the entrance exams: AICTE
“Despite what various media outlets are claiming, CMAT has not been cancelled. It will be held in February as planned. Interested candidates should visit CMAT website,” said Dr Renu Bapna, advisor, AICTE, clearing the confusion that surrounded the exam following Delhi High Court's (HC) recent order.
Shiksha was one of the first to report about the HC cancelling CMAT, while AICTE remained clueless about the same.
AICTE’s attempt to make CMAT a student-friendly, inexpensive and the only MBA (Masters of Business Administration) entrance in various states has been overturned by the HC. “It is up to the Court and other media outlets to decide. We only had the best interest of students in mind,” said Dr Bapna.
According to the court's order, “It is not obligatory for the institutes granting an MBA degree to make admissions to MBA and similar courses only on the basis of the CMAT conducted by the AICTE,” reported the Hindustan Times.
The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Maharashtra has re-launched MAH-MBA and MMS (Masters of Management Studies)-CET, the state's common entrance exams for admissions to management institutes.
According to various media reports, more than 32,000 seats are lying vacant in various MBA and PGDM courses across the state. Earlier this year, DTE even scrapped all Group Discussions (GD) and Personal Interviews (PI) for admission to MBA programmes.
However, even the success of MAH-MBA/MMS-CET cannot be guaranteed as the exam will be held online. Considering that one of the points against CMAT was its online format, what's the idea with DTE also going to conduct an online entrance?
