Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has announced that the Delhi government has revoked the permission given to the top private school in Chanakyapuri for fee-hike. "The fee hike permitted to the school is being revoked. It was found that certain facts were ignored while granting the permission," said during a press conference. The school has increased its fees by 83 per cent in the last few months. Permissions to increase the fee were granted by the Delhi government’s education department through three orders sanctioned in September 2019, December 2019 and March 2020.

“I have observed that permissions for such a steep fee hike have been granted without approvals of Minister-in-charge, especially when no such permissions have been granted to other schools on account of available surpluses,” Sisodia wrote in a letter to the Director of Education. He also mentioned in his letter that the decision was taken after a group of parents of the students of the school complaint that the “DoE has allowed fee increase in an arbitrary and illegal manner”.

"We have already made it clear that no school is allowed to hike fees during the COVID-19 pandemic. Schools are only allowed to charge tuition fees and no extra fees will be allowed to be levied till the schools reopen completely. Strict action will be taken against the defaulters," he said.
