Extra CMAT to be held in May
In a first of sorts, the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has decided to conduct an extra Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) in May 2013. The sole gateway to MBA admissions under government quota, the exam will be addition to the ones scheduled to be conducted in February 21-25 and in September 2013.
The decision was taken following the Karnataka Examinations Authority's appeal to the AICTE to hold another test as only 3,000 students had registered for the second CMAT. The CMAT conducted in September 2012 and the one to be taken this week saw fairly low response from students in the state who were aniticipating the state-administered PGCET(Postgraduate Common Entrance Test) for admissions to MBA.
Therefore, this extra CMAT will be an added opportunity only for the students of Karnataka, Kerala and Uttar Pradesh who were not able to write CMAT-1 or CMAT-2. However, the final dates for the May exam are not declared yet.
The May exam should not be counted as a third exam but just a one-off exercise to give a fair chance to the candidates of these states.
