GATE 2014 going online!

Finally, GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is likely to go completely online from next year. GATE adopted the online mode in the year 2010 for only two of its papers and eventually expanded its online exam portfolio to 15 out of its total of 21 papers.
IIT-Kharagpur is holding GATE this year. According to a tender notice issued by the institute on July 4, 2013, inviting service agencies to send technical and commercial bids, GATE 2014 is likely to hold 21 papers in 12 sessions with two buffer sessions.
Some papers will have multiple sessions, while others will have only one session. Following are some tentative details:
- Dates (tentative): February 1, 2, 15, 16 and March 1, 2 of 2014
- Session and time: 2 sessions (9:00 am to 12:00 noon & 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm) on each day
- Centres (tentative): 118 cities
GATE is an increasingly popular national level exam attracting a record 1.21 million registrations in the year 2013, up from 7,50,000 registrations in 2012. It tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in Engineering and Technology and is conducted by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and the IITs. Based on the score acquired in the exam, students are eligible for admission to post-graduate programmes with government scholarships or assistantships in engineering colleges and universities.
