Hundreds of seats in Ayurveda, Unnani still vacant amid COVID-19 crisis
According to the reports, approximately 100 seats are still vacant even after conducting two allotments, two mop-up counselling and a stray vacancy filling process in over 10 Ayurveda colleges.
The commissioner of the entrance examination failed to complete the procedures for admission to medical and allied medical courses despite reaching the end of the academic year. According to the reports, approximately 100 seats are still vacant even after conducting two allotments, two mop-up counselling and a stray vacancy filling process in over 10 Ayurveda colleges.
Reports suggest that there are almost 36 seats and 17 seats in Unani and Siddha College that are vacant. In order to fill the vacancies, the colleges are being given another chance this month. To fill the seat, the authority has scheduled spot admission on March 18 at the government homeo college. The management had thought that the seats in Kerala would be filled fast as students couldn’t travel to other states for admissions due to the ongoing COVID pandemic and lockdown. However, even now, seats are vacant.
According to the official information, the annual fees for BAMS seats are Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 3 lakh. Meanwhile, the authority has extended the last date for admission to the B Pharm course to March 25 following the demand from the medical education director. No admission has been taken to the two seats under central government nominee quota. The government has allowed converting these two seats to merit and continue with admission for 2020-21.
Talking about the vacant seats, Professor E Kunjiraman, president of Kerala state Indian system of medicine self-financing college management association said, “As many seats are vacant, anyone qualified in the entrance examination but not included in the list of state entrance examination commissioner, should also be given the opportunity for admission.”
