IIT faculty seeks CET rollback

IIT Faculty Federation will meet the PM today to request him about rollback of the new CET. It will also suggest to have one education board across India.
The All India IIT Faculty Federation (AIIITFF) will meet the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today and ask for his intervention on the whole CET row. Kapil Sibal, the HRD Minsiter, has clearly ruled out the rollback of the new exam.
On Wednesday, the secretary of AIIITFF A K Mittal had met PM's advisor TKA Nair and felt positive about the discussion with the PM. Read more
In the meeting, members of the IIT Faculty Federation will request the PM to:
- Restore the autonomy of the IITs and allow them to conduct their own entrance tests as well as allow them to accept, reject, or change the new exam proposal as they deem fit;
- Implement the new format after 2014 so that students can get time to acclimatize to it;
- Replace the ‘one nation, one exam’ concept with ‘one nation, one board’ to make sure that all students across India share a common curriculum and evaluation pattern;
- Make sure that the new JEE Advance Test is a ‘subjective-type test’ instead of being a multiple-type test as proposed by the HRD Ministry. Know more
IIT Kanpur has already announced its own exam. IIT Delhi senate, which is expected to follow the footsteps of IIT-K, will meet on June 21 to discuss the issue.
