JEE may have two-step admission process

About 200 faculty members met the seven-member central committee at IIT Bombay to discuss the new pattern of JEE 2013. IIT faculty has been opposing the plan of the human resource development (HRD) ministry to give weightage to Class XII marks in the new common engineering entrance exam format. Faculty members think that it is unfair to use a set formula to normalise scores of 40 different Indian boards that follow different curricula as well as different assessment rules.
Most faculty members think that before considering Class XII marks, we will need to develop a uniform exam time table across India, improve the quality of school education and teachers, get rid of exam malpractices, and fill up vacant posts of teachers. Read more
However, some of the faculty members did suggest that Class XII marks may be used to shortlist candidates at the first stage. In the second stage, they should be ranked solely on the basis of their performance in the advanced test which will test the aptitude and eligibility of the candidates to enter an IIT.
