Know all about PGDM programmes offered by Chennai’s ITM B-School: Admissions, placement & course structure
Shiksha.com recently concluded a session with top experts of the ITM University (Chennai campus) that revolved around the Postgraduation Diploma in Management (PGDM) courses. The experts talked in detail about the admission process, eligibility criteria, fee, placement process, recruitment companies, salaries and posts offered, among others. Here is an edited excerpt of the conversation:
Q: Can you please tell us more about the admission procedure of ITM B-School for PGDM programme?
A: Students who plan to apply for the two-year full-time PGDM programme PGDM can do so by filling up the admission form available on the official website. Admission at ITM B-School is done based on the marks scored in Class X, Class XII and graduation. This also includes the entrance exam scores and the group discussion and personal interview performance.
Q: What is the fee structure for the PGDM course offered by ITM B-School? What is GIP component in the fee?
A: The fees for ITM B-School for the PGDM course is Rs 7.60 lakh. This fee also includes Rs 40,000 for the institute’s Global Internship Programme (GIP). Under the GIP, students are made to visit the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, for a week-long certification programme.
Q: Which entrance exams are acceptable? In case, a student hasn’t appeared for an entrance exam, what is the procedure to get admission?
A: ITM accepts all the top entrance exams, including Common Admission Test (CAT), Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT), Management Aptitude Test (MAT), Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT), Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) & states Common Entrance Test (CET) and AIMS Test for Management Admissions (ATMA).
Q: Which companies during the placement drive to the institute? Could you elaborate on the posts offered and package details?
A: In 2019, companies, including Nippon Paints, Profectus Capital, Flipkart, Anandrathi Wealth Management, Zomato, Amazon, City Union Bank, ICICI Bank, E&Y, Piramal, among others. The package offered to students depends on their individual performance during the personal interview, aptitude test and prior experience. Usually, an experienced candidate can get an average package of around Rs 8 LPA. While each company comes with a prior requirement, some of the common profiles for which recruitment is done include deputy manager, associate managers, senior associates, area training managers, among others. Some companies also look for management trainees.
Q: Which is better: MBA as a fresher or MBA with a work experience?
A: In India the trend is to complete studies first. However, it is an individual’s choice. Coming with a prior work experience helps you to understand the course better. MBA is a catalyst in your career that accelerates your growth. So, opting for MBA with work experience is a better option.
Q: Does ITM University offer an MBA in Systems?
A: Systems MBA is obsolete now. Business Analytics has taken over this course and is a better built option for those who want to grow in their corporate career. ITM offers an MBA in Business Analytics programme. A potential and trending specialisation for those who come from a Company Secretary background.
Q: What percentage of the programme offered by ITM includes practical training?
A: There are many practical sessions such as NGO project, live project, operational workouts, capstone project, case based learning, brand war events, entrepreneur events , among others. The general approach at ITM is a 60:40 ratio. This means 60 per cent of course is theory and case study while remaining 40 per cent is hands-on sessions.
