Mumbai boy Bhavik Bharambe emerged as one of the toppers in the Maharashtra State Board SSC exam 2018 by scoring 100 percent marks. Although, 125 students scored 100 percent marks in the SSC exam 2018, in no way does it diminish the value of effort that Bhavik put in his studies. He scored 95+ marks in four out of five subjects, credit of which goes to his hard work only. A national level Chess player, Bhavik studied only 3-4 hours daily but ensured that he studied well during those few hours.
Chess was of great help to him in preparation as well as scoring 100 percent marks. Mastery in the game not only improved his concentration, decision-making skills, but also got him 24 extra marks in the Maharashtra State Board SSC exam.
Shiksha spoke to Bhavik about his commendable success and preparation strategy. Read on.
Q. Congratulations! Did you expect to score 100 percent marks and be the topper of the exam?
Thank you. No, I was expecting 98 percent.
Q. How did your family react to the news?
Everyone was very happy in my family. They were expecting close to 100 percent.
Q. How did you prepare for Maharashtra State Board SSC exam?
I finished most of the portion in the summer vacations. During the school, I just used to study regularly for some time.
Q. What was your schedule/timetable for exam preparation?
To be honest, I didn't follow any timetable. I just used to study what I wanted at that time. I gave some more time to the subjects which I found difficult.
Q. For how many hours did you study in a day?
I used to study for 3-4 hours a day.
Q. Did you take coaching or prefer self-study?
I did not join any coaching classes for class 10th. I prefer self study.
Q. Which books are important to study to score well in the SSC exam?
I used to read the notes given by the teachers in the school. Other than that, I followed Chetana MasterKey and Navneet 21 Questions Set.
Q. How important is revision?
Of course, revision is very important because with thorough revision we don't forget what we have studied.
Q. You are a national level Chess player. How much did it help you in the exam and also in scoring 100% marks?
Playing Chess has improved my concentration, decision-making skills, etc. so it was of great help while preparation as well as during the exam. As I had won a Gold medal in a national level tournament in class 10th, I got 24 extra marks.
Q. What all would you do during break from exam preparation or how would you de-stress yourself?
I used to play Chess or listen to songs during my study breaks.
Q. What was your frame of mind while writing the exams? Were you nervous or confident about your preparation?
I was confident about what I have studied but I was still feeling the pressure.
Q. Any tips for future aspirants?
They must study regularly and should not keep any work pending for the next day. Most of the study should be finished in the vacations itself.
