Maharashtra to adopt CET from 2013
First state to announce its allegiance to the nation-wide Common Entrance Test (CET) for admission to all its engineering colleges from 2013 onwards, Maharashtra govt has decided to give 50% weightage to class XII board exam marks for the exam.
The weightage given to the board marks will be same for both English-medium and non-English medium schools. Admission to all engineering colleges in Maharashtra, including IITs and NITs, will be based on CET 2013.
The state government will soon present a proposal to this effect to the state Cabinet for its approval. Read more
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2013 – the entrance test for admission to M.Tech and PhD programmes at IITs, IISc Bangalore and several other engineering colleges, will introduce certain improvisations from next year too. While it conducted tests for only six subject papers last year, it will conduct online exam for 15 subject papers next year.
Online GATE 2013 will be conducted on January 20, 2013 while offline tests for original six subject papers will be conducted on February 20, 2013.
IIT Bombay will organize the next GATE exam, which will be conducted at around 100 centres across India.
In another surprise package, HRD Ministry has waived off application fee for GATE for girls from this year. At present, the GATE application fee for general category boys is Rs 1,200 while for OBC and other reserved category boys, it is Rs 600. Know more
