Gateway for admission to Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) institutes, the first day first slot of Narsee Monjee Management Aptitude Test (NMAT) went smoothly without any technical glitches. Shiksha.com correspondents visited the first ever test centre in Noida to get the feel of how the exam went.

Day 1 Slot 1

According to MNC executive Aditi Aggarwal and second-time NMAT taker, “Logical Reasoning (LR) was the easiest section. Verbal Ability (VA) was tricky while Quant was difficult. We were not allowed to switch between sections. There were no surprises, but Quant had too many Data Interpretation (DI) questions. The paper was very lengthy, I needed more time.”Entry for the exam began at 8:45 am sharp. About 22 students appeared for the exam at the 25-seater test centre. Candidates started emerging out at 11:30 am, expressing a bouquet of reactions.

Echoing similar views, first time NMAT takers and final year students of BIT MESRA, Nipun Gupta and Shalini said, “The exam was good and easy. The initial questions were easy. However as the test progressed, problems became lengthy.”

According to the students, Quant had more calculative parts and highly graph-based.  The English section had 32 questions, which had to be solved in 22 minutes. Though students could not switch between sections, but they were allowed to go back to the questions in a section.

“Time was an important factor. While some questions took 1 minute, some more than 6 minutes,” said Priyank Verma, AKG Engineering College graduate. A first time NMAT taker, Verma has no plans to reschedule it again.

“There is no negative marking in the exam, unlike CAT, which is a great relief to us. Relief because we could play the guessing game without getting any marks deducted,” added Aggarwal. Upon asking about rescheduling, she readily agreed, saying, “Because there is a better chance of scoring more.” She missed NMAT 2012 by one mark and intends to make it up this year. She solely relied on self preparation for all her attempts at MBA entrances.

All students Shiksha spoke to approached NMAT as a practising platform for CAT and XAT.

What To Expect

According to the Noida test takers, the first day had only one exam slot. “The test went smoothly. There were no technical glitches. Both biometric identity system and live feed recording were enforced at the centre for safety measures,” informed Chander Sharma, VP, Mount Talent Consulting Ltd.

Candidates were provided with erasable notepad and markers for rough-work during the exam. If you intend to take the exam during the coming days, DO NOT forget to carry two IDs along apart from your admit card.

“Be careful about slot. If you are a morning person, go for the first slots of the day. Else choose a more comfortable and later slot,” said another NMAT aspirant. However, the same candidate has specifically opted for the last day slot in CAT 2013.
