The online version of All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) is seeing a positive trend. Last year, only 4,900 candidates had appeared for the online exam, whereas this year the number has increased to 1.65 lakh. However, it's a lukewarm response considering that out of the 11 lakh registrations for AIEEE 2012, only 1.65 lakh candidates across India opted for the online test, being conducted over a 19-day period. Day 1 of the exam went off smoothly with no glitches reported from any of the 140 centres across the country.
Out of 31,000 students who had registered to appear for online AIEEE on Day 1, more than 30,000 candidates appeared for the test on May 7. The online exam will be conducted on three more days - on May 12, 19 and 26. It is expected that the positive experience with the online format will encourage more students to opt for it next year. About 10 lakh students have already appeared for the traditional pen-paper based AIEEE, which was conducted on April 29. The online and offline exam questions shared a similar difficulty level.
One feature that offers an additional advantage to students opting for the online AIEEE exam is the convenience of attempting questions in English or Hindi, with the facility to switch languages anytime during the exam. Know more about this facility
